What do you have to do to get the traffic ticket attorney to do more than just plea bargain your ticket?

I’ve seen attorneys, postpone the trial so long that a couple years later it gets dismissed, I’ve also heard about them getting tickets dismissed completely. But everytime I pay a ticket attorney they usually just plea bargain it and get a small discount on the fine which barely covers their attorney fees. I’ve even asked their staff if I have to pay extra to take the ticket to trial, but they said the attorney wouldn’t accept it
So I’m thinking “what’s the point of hiring the attorney in the first place, I might as well do it myself” How does everyone else do it.
